Visiting Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Li Yong today assured Bangladesh of providing technical support in managing its electronic waste (e-waste).

The UNIDO DG came up with the assurance during his meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at the Industries Ministry.

He said UNIDO is also interested to provide assistance to Bangladesh for extending the country’s agriculture-based industry, increasing energy capacity and developing environment-friendly industry in Bangladesh.

During the meeting, they discussed the value chain development of local agriculture-based industries, waste and water management, low carbon emission, processing of agricultural products and diversification of jute goods.

Li Yong said Bangladesh is now one of the fast growing countries in the world while it is a model for UNIDO member countries in eliminating poverty.

Apprising Bangladesh’s sustainable industrial development and growth, he said UNIDO will help Bangladesh manage e-waste and polluted water to increase its capacity in industrial sector.

Amu said UNIDO can provide support to Bangladesh under its country programme to ensure overall development of its industrial sector.
